frequently asked questions

ARE THERE CHECK-INS FOR THIS EVENT?
No check-ins. The event period is pretty short as it is, so presumably (and hopefully), a participant's interest will hold from sign-up to the end.
IS THIS AN ANONYMOUS EVENT?
No. We do have a posting schedule (see: SCHEDULE), but credits will be intact and visible as soon as works are revealed.
DOES THAT MEAN WE CAN PUBLICLY TALK ABOUT OUR WORK BEFORE POSTING?
You're allowed to talk about what you're working on but DO NOT POST THE FINISHED PRDUCT ANYWHERE BEFORE OFFICIAL REVEALS.
HOW ABSTRACT OR HOW LITERAL IS OUR INTERPRETATION OF THE SEASONS EXPECTED TO BE?
You can be as abstract or as literal as you want as long as 1) you can confidently point out what part of your work was inspired by a colour, and 2) your chosen colour theme is central to your final output.
WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF SEASONAL INSPIRATIONS? First of all check out the seasonal inspiration page or the links at the bottom of the page to get a better idea of the four temperate seasons being used for this event. Second, inspiration and interpretation is up to the participant. You can choose to have literal prompts in the form of songs with seasons in their title (ie. XX's Y^, as a prompt), or songs that portray vibes appropriate for specific seasons (ie. ZZ's AA). Also allowed is poetry with seasonal themes (ie. BB's CC), or even any image that has obvious seasonal themes. You can also be abstract, and try to evoke in your work emotions and themes that are typically associated with certain seasons (ie. Birth for Spring, Seascape imagery for Summer, etc.)CAN WE DO MULTIPLE SEASONS PER WORK? Yes, that's what the final category, COMBINATIONS is for!

spring

rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, regrowth;
warm greens, sunny yellows, orangey reds, very peachy pinks, light browns

Spring, in climatology, is the season of the year between winter and summer during which temperatures gradually rise. It is generally defined in the Northern Hemisphere as extending from the vernal equinox (day and night equal in length), March 20 or 21, to the summer solstice (year’s longest day), June 21 or 22, and in the Southern Hemisphere from September 22 or 23 to December 22 or 23. The spring temperature transition from winter cold to summer heat occurs only in middle and high latitudes; near the Equator, temperatures vary little during the year. Spring is very short in the polar regions. ( src )

Summer is the warmest season of the year that occurs between spring and autumn. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is usually defined as the period between the summer solstice (year’s longest day), June 21 or 22, and the autumnal equinox (day and night equal in length), September 22 or 23; and in the Southern Hemisphere, as the period between December 22 or 23 and March 20 or 21. The temperature contrast between summer and the other seasons exists only in middle and high latitudes; temperatures in the equatorial regions generally vary little from month to month. ( src )

Fall is the season of the year between summer and winter during which temperatures gradually decrease. It is often called fall in the United States because leaves fall from the trees at that time. Autumn is usually defined in the Northern Hemisphere as the period between the autumnal equinox (day and night equal in length), September 22 or 23, and the winter solstice (year’s shortest day), December 21 or 22; and in the Southern Hemisphere as the period between March 20 or 21 and June 21 or 22. The autumn temperature transition between summer heat and winter cold occurs only in middle and high latitudes; in equatorial regions, temperatures generally vary little during the year. In the polar regions autumn is very short. ( src )

winter

Winter is the coldest season of the year, occurring between autumn and spring; the name comes from an old Germanic word that means “time of water” and refers to the rain and snow of winter in middle and high latitudes. In the Northern Hemisphere it is commonly regarded as extending from the winter solstice (year’s shortest day), December 21 or 22, to the vernal equinox (day and night equal in length), March 20 or 21, and in the Southern Hemisphere from June 21 or 22 to September 22 or 23. The low temperatures associated with winter occur only in middle and high latitudes; in equatorial regions, temperatures are almost uniformly high throughout the year. ( src )
